Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have an opportunity for a full time Buyer to join our fruits and vegetables replenishement team!

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

  • Deliver against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success based Service Level, Freshness and Freight Optimization
  • Maintain Freshness – daily review of inventory, sales, and upcoming PO’s to minimize shrink/ sell offs for article that exceed the target date (1 to 5 day window, minimal safety stock )
  • Maintain Freshness – Proactively review and identify articles that will exceed the target date (1 to 5 day window, minimal safety stock ) and immediately action as required  (which may include working with CM to create a promotion and reduce price or could result in reselling to wholesalers)
  • Service Level:  daily review to identify and prevent out of stock situation as several suppliers are listed by article.
  • Service Level: Identify and build relationships with wholesalers or find new suppliers from the market who can provide ad hoc coverage when regular suppliers are unable to support an order (This includes negotiating to ensure they will comply with our specifications, provide fair price, and will meet required demand)
  • Freight Optimization – daily review to ensure truck is maximized for weight/ cube to maintain and reduce costs
  • Perform replenishment process, to include purchase order execution for baseline, promotional, and investment buying
  • Decision making based on forecast, seasonality, on hand/ order quantities, supplier lead time/ transit time and Sourcing Manager’s quota file.
  • Conduct analysis to evaluate future customer demand based on historical data.
  • Support the development and execution of best-practice inventory management processes that will meet or exceed benchmarks for customer order fill, freshness
  • Accountable to adhere to weekly buy guide and ensure that the replenishment function meets budgeted financial targets (to avoid any impact to the margin) which contributes to the respective region and banner strategies
  • Working in both systems, ensure daily system maintenance of WDRF and ITRADE is performed regarding delivery date pricing, quantities and PO status
  • Monitor and take appropriate action on vendor performance with respect to order fill and on time delivery and any I-Trade issues.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities with Vendors, Category Management, Sourcing, Replenishment, and Logistics on areas for improvement.

What you have to offer:

  • An Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a DEC and a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Bilingual (French-English) is prefered. The candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the expansion, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada.
  • Knowledge of principles of demand forecasting and inventory planning
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel (intermediate)
  • Fresh / Produce experience required
