Our Sobeys Wholesale teammates are currently looking for an Assistant Category Manager to support our growing national wholesale business. Sobeys Wholesale is the largest and most successful retail driven full service Food Wholesaler in Canada offering the following categories: grocery, dairy, meat, produce, deli, bakery and more! If you have experience supporting category plans/budget, have an eye for details (article listing), and enjoying supporting smaller businesses through Sobeys best practices then this role is for you.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

  • Develop a deep understanding of designated categories, market trends and consumer behaviors;
  • Accountable for the product, placement, pricing and promotion for items within their categories, consistent with each banner strategy
  • Respond to customer needs in their category, and is responsible for developing and executing customer-relevant strategies;
  • Review and analyze margins, deals, retail savings, pricing reference article, forecasts, units of measure, cost, pages and sales sets for accuracy;
  • Communicate with Replenishment Team with respect to inventory management;
  • Assist with the resolution of pricing issues;
  • Review vendor submissions and new article listing reports;
  • Assist in ad creation and ad proofing processes;
  • Respond to requests to meet customer needs;
  • Review underperforming categories;
  • Work with Category Manager in development and management of merchandising programs;
  • Work with Category Manager in managing the seasonal process;
  • Work with Wholesale Sales Team in supporting key reporting to support their clients;
  • Partner with Replenishment Team on inventory management.

What you have to offer:

  • Previous experience working in the retail industry; grocery industry preferred;
  • Fully Bilingual in English/French is a must as the candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the expansion, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada.
  • Ability to leverage technology (SAP, SalesForce and other) to review and analyze large volumes of data;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the business (oral & written);
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to negotiate and influence others;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with mastery of Excel platform.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast pace and deadline-driven environment.
  • Be autonomous and work in a different office than rest of the team
  • Ability to collaborate with various teams
