The Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill two (2) positions for Project Manager to join our Energy Delivery Capital Execution team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Project Implementation, this role will lead the development, planning, and execution of various Capital Projects.

Key elements of this role include:

As a Project Manager:

    • You will manage various Capital Projects pertaining to high voltage transmission and medium voltage distribution lines, submarine power cable crossings, substation equipment (such as power transformers and circuit breakers), and more.
    • You will be responsible for managing the entire project lifecycle, including project development (economic and business case justification and review of alternatives), planning, engineering, procurement, scheduling, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
    • You will be responsible for all components of the project’s Regulatory Governance, including managing project scope and justification, financial performance, cost controls, and UARB requirements.
    • You will be required to work closely with members of various Nova Scotia Power teams, including Field Operations, Engineering, Asset Management, System Planning, Environmental Services, and Safety, as well as external stakeholders, including customers and various authorities (Transport Canada, NSDNRR, etc.), to ensure the projects are successfully developed and implemented.
    • You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction, including contractors, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
    • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environment management system processes and initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and full membership (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Strong project management skills, experience with managing entire project lifecycles, knowledge of formal project management methodologies, and demonstrated competence in delivering projects on time, on schedule and on budget.
  • Strong communications and relationship skills with regards to internal and external stakeholders, and an ability to work with various departments in the Nova Scotia Power organization.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Nova Scotia to support projects as needed.
  • Experience in a regulated utility operating environment, and experience with high voltage and medium voltage infrastructure, are assets.
  • PMP certification is an asset.
