What is the opportunity?

RBC PH&N Investment Counsel (“RBC PH&N IC”) is one of Canada’s leading boutique investment counselling firms with investment professionals nationwide acting exclusively for high-net-worth clients and small business owners. We provide clients with discretionary investment management and privileged access to the expertise of our RBC Wealth Management Services team which includes highly accredited lawyers, accountants, and financial planning specialists.

As a member of RBC PH&N IC, the Associate Portfolio Manager is responsible for working with Investment Counsellors (IC) to construct customized investment strategies for high-net-worth clients and small business owners.

As an Associate Portfolio Manager, you will:

  • Build and implement asset allocation trading plans and enter trades accordingly to implement the client’s investment strategy.
  • Draft Investment Policy Statements (IPS), as needed, by analyzing the client’s personal financial circumstances, investment objectives, risk profile and other unique client preferences.
  • Monitor portfolios to ensure each portfolio’s asset mix is within IPS ranges.
  • Analyze financial market trends and economic conditions and recommend potential tactical allocation opportunities to your IC.
  • Manage ongoing scheduled/ad-hoc cash flow requests by implementing security trading and portfolio rebalancing trades.
  • Track the performance of RBC PH&N IC’s product shelf, including individual stocks, bonds, pooled funds and ETFs, and recommend suitable investment products to meet a client’s investment objectives.
  • Perform individual security analysis, as needed, in support of your IC’s investment decisions.
  • Utilize your business development skills to recognize planning opportunities for clients, and how they may benefit from a referral to an RBC partner.
  • Proactively participate in regional and national projects seeking to improve upon client solutions.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • University Degree in a related field (Economics and/or Business).
  • CFA Level 2 Exam passed; must be enrolled to write CFA Level 3 exam within the next 12 months. Note that priority will be given to candidates with their full CFA designation.
  • Minimum 3 years portfolio management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years investment industry experience.

Nice to Have:

  • CFP Designation (Certified Financial Planner).
  • Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®).
  • Discretionary portfolio management experience, preferably with high-net-worth clients.
  • Marketing/Sales background.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills, both written and oral.

The expected salary range for the above position is $62,000 – $110,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.

This position may be eligible to receive a discretionary/variable incentive payment.
